here are a few of my recent new fave finds:

love, love, love a band from arizona - obadiah parker. they are as yet unsigned, but they have some amazing covers of a few of my favorite songs. check them out on itunes (over to the bar on the left) or on their website. i've also discovered the amazing kim taylor. if you like rosie thomas, maria taylor (no relation to kim that i'm aware of) and their contemporaries, you'll love kim's voice and songwriting. simply beautiful!

a few years ago, i enjoyed reading the very charming no. 1 ladies' detective agency book series by alexander mccall smith. i loved the intriguing cultural setting of botswana and i adored the gutsy heroine, precious ramotswe. now that hbo has based a tv series on the book series, i am enjoying it thoroughly, too! i must say, i thought very highly of singer/actress jill scott before the series, but i believe she is on the cusp of something really incredible!

and while we're talking tv, the talented bea arthur passed away this weekend. though i know her acting roles were numerous, she'll always be the witty and wry dorothy of golden girls to me. found this hilarious video of some of her best quips from the show. enjoy!
