growing up, my mom and i frequently attended our town's local dance homage to the season - the nutcracker. several years later, my older niece participated in a much larger production with the baton rouge ballet theatre. of course, both ballets were lovely. (but you know me...i was just as transfixed by tchaikovsky's music. to this day, i get chills when i hear those first few strands of "dance of the sugar plum fairy." on a side note, check out bela fleck and the flecktones's unique version on itunes. it's superb!)
last night, pbs's program great performances showcased a special dance in america: san francisco ballet's the nutcracker. it was incredibly beautiful and perhaps the best performance of the ballet i've ever seen. the company made the production their own by drawing inspiration from the 1915 world's fair. you can see a short video describing it here.
blessings to you,
dana
