i tried not to, really...

so, last week i'm flipping the channels and i find that cmt is running an episode of their show crossroads. i'm always intrigued by singer/songwriter pairings and so i paused to see who would be on this episode. i near about fell off the couch...it was def leppard - metal rock extraordinaires of my adolescence and taylor swift - country music wunderkind. seriously?!!? i couldn't believe that these two artists were paired for so many reasons - least of which was i wondered if taylor swift even knew who def leppard was?! i mean, the group mates are all old enough to be her father and then some. but alas, i watched...anticipating a train wreck and of course, not being able to look away. i was prepared to turn the channel and soon! then, something extraordinary happened...i found myself enjoying it.

oh, gosh - okay, i wrote it and it's out there. please let me explain. i didn't want to like taylor swift or her music, really. but i found myself thinking "wow - this teenager can write some good lyrics!" and then i found that what i always perceived as her smugness or arrogance or something is actually her youthful spunkiness. this girl is not too bad! also to her credit - she gave the guys of def leppard their proper respect as 80s and 90s rock giants.

and so with that i must confess, i bought taylor's new album fearless on itunes. as much as i hate to say it...it's good. check it out.

blessings to you,
dana
